Miami City

The City of Miami.

If you fly into Miami International Airport, you will probably fly over the main city centre which is a couple of miles to the East of the Airport. Linked by the EastWest Expressway, the one thing you will come to notice a bit like any other City in America is just how big the roads are and more importantly how well sign posted directions are. Major sights you probably want to consider upon arrival range from The Bayside Marketplace, right on the water. The Museum of Science and Planetarium, always a hit for those sci-fi lovers. Located to the south of Brickell Avenue, also on the water front.

Downtown Miami itself is also at the heart of any visit it is located just South of Little Havana which are both major spots for local people and tourists alike. Although Downtown Miami does tend to go really quiet at night. As you will probably notice there is a huge Cuban community in Miami, fleeing from the revolution back in the 50's, thousands of people fled to the safety of Miami. The influence is fairly substantial, from Latino music, food, salsa, you name it.

The Venetian Pool is a public pool and you will be amazed by its style and upkeep. Originally created back in the 1920s it is very Mediterranean in theme and you can choose to have a dip, catch a tan or just admire it.

Swim with the Dolphins!

There are plenty of Churches and places of worship throughout Miami, one such Church worth a vist is the Coral Gables Congregational Church located on De Soto Boulevard also completed in the early 1920's, legend has it that some of the furnishings within the Church are from old shipwrecks of the 16th Century.

Coconut Grove.

An expensive part of town, and well liked by the rich and famous. It is expensive but there are alot of art galleries and niche shopping boutiques which can be found close to the junction of McFarlane Road and Main Highway. There is also a wide choice of restaurants, shops, cinemas - pretty much anything you would expect to find.

Rickenbacker Causeway.

If you do hire a car and go for a drive, you should consider trying out the Key Biscayne and the Crandon Beach Park. To do this you need to drive onto the Causeway off Brickell Avenue and follow the road all the way up to the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park right on the tip of the island. There is a toll (keep $1, $2, $5 etc change available) so you have to pay to use the causeway, but the views are incredible not to mention the drive on a clear day
