Non-immigrant Visas.

Travellers to the USA who wish to visit, work or study for a temporary period require a non-immigrant visa where the type of visa will depend on the purpose of travel.


Who needs a visa?

Anyone who is not eligible to enter the United States visa free under the Visa Waver Program, or is not exempt from the visa requirement. See also:

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP).;

Many travelers seeking to enter the U.S. for business or tourism (B-1/B-2 visa) for less than 90 days will be eligible to travel to the United States visa free under the Visa Waver Program.


Effective July 1, 2009, all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) emergency or temporary passports must be electronic passports (e-Passports) to be eligible for travel to the United States under the VWP. This includes VWP applicants who present emergency or temporary passports to transit the United States.


As of January 12, 2009, a valid ESTA approval is required for all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) to travel to the United States. The Department of Homeland Security, Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a free, automated system used to determine the eligibility of visitors to travel to the United States under the VWP.


Applying for the visa.

With few exceptions, non-immigrant visa applicants aged 14 to 79 are required to schedule an appointment for an interview with a U.S. consular officer. The Embassy does not accept walk-in applications. Applicants under the age of 14 or those aged 80 or over may be eligible to apply for a visa through the Embassy approved courier service.

British Passport renewal in USA.

The 2 British Consulates in Florida DO NOT Issue or renew British Passports. All UK passport renewals are handled centrally by the British Embassy in Washington www.ukinusa.fco.gov.uk then select British Passports info for passport application forms, a list of fees and what you need to send with your passport application.


The Consulate's service delivery partner for passports, Abtran, will answer your telephone enquiries on 1-800-285-7277. They will charge a fee for providing this service, and the information they have is exactly the same as the information on www.ukinusa.fco.gov.uk


The Orlando Consulate can provide you with an emergency travel document if your passport?has been lost or stolen only but has not expired. Don't just turn up as you will need to make an appointment for any service provided by the Consulate by calling (407) 254-3300.

Visas for visiting UK.

Visas are not issued by any British Consulate in Florida. ALL information about applying for a visa to visit the UK and Overseas Territories is available from the Consulate's service delivery partner, Worldbridge, for visas at www.visainfoservices.com You can also email specific visa questions from this site or call them on (212) 796-5773 but they will charge a fee for providing this service.


Should you register with the British Consulate?

You don't have to, but the Consulate encourages all British nationals living and travelling overseas to register using the Foreign Office's new on-line registration system called Locate.
