Frontierland
Welcome to the very Wild West!!! As you walk
out of the sophisticated surroundings of Main Street USA be prepared
to meet the wildest of the west! Banjo music, Smoked Turkey Legs with
all the boyish charm of Tom Sawyer’s back yard…
You
will marvel at Splash Mountain and be drawn towards the
screaming runaway adventure coming from the direction of the Big
Thunder Mountain Railroad!
In
order to take a complete route of this truly American adventure you
should take a trip across the Rivers of America
and pay a visit to Tom Sawyer Island or for something less
mischievous take a trip to the Country Bear Jamboree for some good
old-fashioned thigh-slapping (air-conditioned) fun!
Set
to resemble the ‘Gold Rush’ era, the Thunder Mountain Railroad is
a runaway roller-coaster ride in the surroundings of the arid, rocky
terrain resembling Utah in a flooded town named “Tumbleweed”.
Attention
to detail is evident on this ride with genuine antique mining
equipment placed throughout, not to mention the smell of Sulphur and
other mining scents...Yuk!
Ride
Restrictions- Minimum height
requirement 40"/102cm. For safety and comfort, you should be in
good health and free from heart, back or neck problems, motion
sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this jerky
experience. Expectant mothers should not ride. Young children should
be accompanied by an adult. Note that Baby swap allowed. (To
do 'Baby swap'/'Switching off' on a ride there must be 2 adults.
Adults and children wait in line together and when the first
attendant in line is met, you must inform them that you wish to do
the baby swap. When at the loading area, one adult will be permitted
to ride while the other stays with the children in the queue and
vice-versa)
Fast
pass is offered on this ride.
As
the name suggests this is a Jamboree, country style dancing show.
The show stars a sleuth of twenty audio-animatronics bears with
banjos galore. A whole lot of fun is to be had with the singing and
unforgettably entertaining host Henry and his pals: The Five Bear
Rugs, Wendell, Big Al,
Beula, Bunny , Liver Lip Mcgraw and the rest of the posse!!
The
show lasts 15 minutes and is most popular (i.e. busy) anytime after
11am so, best to visit beforehand or before the park shuts (or even
during the parade).
Accessibility
Note: There are no wheelchair or
accessibility restrictions. Guests with hearing difficulties should
note that assistive listening devices can be used here and are also
available at Guest Services. Furthermore Reflective Captioning is
provided for the deaf. Why not ask a Cast Member at the entrance for
assistance.
If
you haven’t heard of this ride then the world will be very
surprised! Based on
animated sequences in the 1946 film by Walt Disney “Song of the
South,” the vast 87-foot high Splash Mountain displays one of
the world’s longest flume drops and assures riders a descent faster
than any other in the kingdom at an incredible 40 mph!! Hold on to
your hats!
The
ride can be found in the plot next to Thunder Mountain Railroad. The
11 minute long ride commences in log flume boats which carry 8 people
and takes the adventurers through a series of flooded mountain
canals. Along the way expect to see an array of audio-animatronics
characters! The ride crescendo’s with a 50 foot drop which paves
the escape route for Brer Rabbit –so you are guaranteed to get a
tad wet (most definitely the case if you sit at the very front)!
Accessibility
Note: Riders in wheelchairs must be
able to transfer to the log boats in order to ride this. There is
also a minimum height requirement of 40”/102cms.
Fast
pass is offered on this ride and
this is strongly recommended as lines are always long for this
attraction at all times of the day
“Tom
Sawyer! Where you gone?”
Based
on the famous novel by Mark Twain, this adventure island boasts a
wealth of experienced mischief and a voyage of exploration! You can
get to the Island by a gentle wooden raft from Frontierland.
The
island is connected with authentically creaky, old-fashioned creaky
and Fort Langhorn. It is open until dusk and is suitable for all
adventure goers and kids of all ages. It is fashioned as a
walk-though attraction and is a wonderful way to shake off and wind
down from high pressured attractions. Adults can sit and relax in
rocking chairs and watch the world go by, whilst admiring the
beautiful great oaks, pines, red maples, elms and sycamores. Tom
Sawyer island is still a place for the kids however, and offers
meandering caves to explore and a working watermill for some good
old-fashioned fun. There is a fairly limited menu on Tom Sawyer
Island, although it boasts a great place to picnic with chicken legs,
ice cream, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
The
only downer to this island is the queue for the rafts, so allow
yourself plenty of time.
Accessibility
Note: Unfortunately, Tom Sawyer
Island is not very suitable to those in wheelchairs given the rickety
bridges and raft connections.
